Happy 72nd Araw ng Dabaw

Today is a non-working holiday for Dabawenyos since today we celebrate the 72nd Araw ng Dabaw.

The Araw ng Dabaw (Davao Day) has evolved into a celebration of the Davaoeños’ oneness. It is a vibrant feast held every March 16 and together with the Kadayawan, ranks as Davao City’s biggest annual event.

This year’s theme is “Pagtupad sa Dakilang Pangako” in which Mayor Rodrigo Duterte points out his fulfilled noble promises not to be successful in every promise but to strive that promise into a successful one. Mayor Rody is the longest-serving City Mayor of Davao. Now on his sixth term as Mayor, he actually first got into politics by accident. Son of the late Governor Vicente Duterte, the last governor of the still undivided Davao province, Mayor Rody was a reluctant politician who believed that becoming Mayor, like the Presidency of the Republic, has a lot to do with destiny.
