A CallBox Agent said, “IT is obsolete and a waste of money.”

Alright, just so what the title says its true. And I am really annoyed of what she said.

Actually we’ve been to CallBox just right a few hours ago, together with my classmates, to apply for OJT. Since we’re on Bajada (Davao City, Philippines) so we decided to go to Landco Coporate Center to look for an IT-Based company that could possibly hire us for OJT. Just right there on the 9th floor of the said establishment, we’ve arrived in CallBox. CallBox is known for their top performance in sales and marketing solutions but not with their employees (maybe). We enter CallBox and noticed that there are only a few people inside their office and at the call stations since it’s after noon and basically they’re receiving calls only during night time until morning on the next day based on Philippine Time. And so a clerk or agent or whoever she was, approached us at the mini lobby of their office, and asks about why are we there. Basically we’re there to apply for OJT.

First we’re amazed with her communication skills since she can talk slang (American) English fluently (no wonder she’s in a call center company). She stared on us one by one and we started to talk about the purpose why we’re there and just right after that, she insist that they’re not accepting OJTs but they’re looking for a full time call center agent (I guess), and thought we’re nursing students (wow, what about that?). So she mean it and we couldn’t do anything about it and look for another company, but she invited us just to submit our resumes (online) and they’ll be calling us back if they will be needing. And so the highlight of the story begins, she started to talk about IT (Information Technology). As far as she is concern (I guess), she said why IT, IT is obsolete, a waste of money, and most of all not in demand. Again, she mean all these things, and so I and my classmates abruptly kept silent. We looked at each other and our minds keep on wondering why she’s talking about these. I mean, can’t she realize she’s in a call center company and basically technology (computers, networks, and etc.) is the majority of what they’re using. Oh well of course as a well dignified and a competent individuals, we ignored her claims.

Just as we cannot reply to her claims because we are slightly irritated, she changed the topic, going back to online application. So she invited us to submit our application using their online application that can be found on CallBox official website. We enter the call station and she enter the guest password of the first six computers (since we’re six) and we signed up and submit our personal, educational, and other related information. Then few minutes later she’s observing us and made a joke. Wanna know her joke, I mean that’s not a joke for us IT people, she said “BS Computer Science … “, then she added, “BS Computer Sayang”, (instead of science). Well if you didn’t get that joke, she claimed that studying IT or CS (Computer Science) and other computer related degree is a waste of time and money, this and that, copy-paste then submit …

Once again, she mean it! Well of course maybe for her she doesn’t know about what and who is she talking about. I mean we are not lame people right? So now going back to what she thought about us, that we’re nursing student, so basically for her Nursing people are now the one who configures their VoIP, install, troubleshoot computers, and etc. So how would you react about that? And also she shouldn’t be like that because they are degrading people, people who’s more competent than her, people who’s more intelligent than her, I mean she’s very stupid (sorry for the word).

I have nothing against CallBox but instead to that specific person under CallBox. Unfortunately we didn’t get the name of that agent since we’re very annoyed with her super duper whatever claims.

    oh well. kaloko xa. i thought intelligent xa kay d way palng xa mutalk educated xa. Later on i realized that i was wrong. Uneducated xa. wala xa manners tska bugo diay xa. mga nursing students or graduates na ang nagatroubleshoot, nagaprogram, nagaconfigure sa VoIP,nga.install instead na tao. hahay!     She is very stupid to say those words about IT people,about you who were there in Callbox. What th heck was she talking about! Is she on crack? Go back to Callbox and tell her that she should try some Nursing students to fix their PCs and let’s see if they can do it without the help of an IT :p

I mean, is she blind? when we enter their office, what we saw are bunch of computers lining in table, in two rooms. and what they are using is the VoIP-configured PC’s, and where is the nursing in that? so to clear things up, I’ll tell the OJT coordinator that nursing can actually go to call box and apply for OJT?

Then there she’s so very very in bad mood then said the holy-grail-phrase “why IT, IT is obsolete, a waste of money, and most of all not in demand”.

  16. the girl was a computer science graduate from UM, according to a friend who works in callbox, that girl has really a bad attitude, she was even demoted from her job as an HR to a clerk…

    Ive known callbox as a ligitimate workplace for people with good grey matter but this time one rotten subject invaded the whole workplace and dropping foul smelling shit around trying to destroy the whole organization. How can callbox ever permitted such an act of stupidity.Is callbox aware that an employee is all out to destroy them by spreading its own deadly virus inside the organization? This lady of no affiliation, substance, identity,importance and more has no right to insult, destroy and make comparisons of the courses she has mentioned as her preference to that of what she dislikes.In the first place, what does she know anyway. Good English command does not mean being superior or brilliant.Just in case she does not know what it means,she better get herself enrolled back in a primary school for better appreciation of her existence. The worst thing she did was to insult students from I.T program who just came to apply as OJT at callbox. What right does she have to do such act? Worst yet is to compare I.T to Nursing.Both are very good courses.This lady has to find her way out of call box.If she doesnt know the way out, I will do a personal urgent visit and usher her way out right after a conference with the management.See you lady and be sure to give the best shot of your spoken defense as you often believe that youre a local grown english woman.Stop being arrogant.

  29. The term “obsolete” seems to be inappropriate.. Information Technology which is basically related to Computers can never become obsolete. In fact, the whole world is currently in the progress of adapting to the technology of computers.. Of course, IT people are those who maintain computers.. I believe that in a matter of 10 years or more, every human being in this planet will already make use of these machines. The society is rapidly evolving.

    Here’s an info.. Researchers and IT specialists (programmers and engineers) in Japan are already developing Androids (robots) who can interact with people. For sure, Call Centers will no longer be in demand. If the progressive countries will continue to develop Robots, and the only manpower that will be needed in the future shall be IT people, Engineers, and those who design and develop computer related stuffs.

    Maybe, the lady never thought about that.. And finally, IT can still progress even without an employer to hire them.. I can relate.. :D

  40. hi! i came across your blog and read this entry. I’m an I.T student and it is such an insult that people like her brands I.T or CS course/field as such.. She might not know what she’s saying.. I think the technologies today are enough proof of the wonders of I.T and CS.

(this lady) maybe she is with the HR department. you should’ve took her name and report this to proper authority..I believe IT is never and will never be obsolete,.she is really stupid.she’s not suppose to work in a callcenter kung ganyan siya mag isip.
    as much as I want, I don’t want to see any blogs like this kasi baka masira kami sa client namin in the US. I am so sorry for this thing to happen to you guys.,

    • I think she has been reprimanded by callbox davao. But surely she was reported by our OJT Moderator as well as with other callbox officials.

  42. hearing your story gives me now a doubt whether i should still continue to apply in callbox… it might be so depressing to work with those type of poeple(if ever i’ll be hired)…
