E-jeepneys: A Solution for Smoke-belching Jeepneys

Air pollution is the most common problem that is currently being experienced on the major cities in the Philippines. Smoke-belching jeepneys are the one that contributes to this calamity. Not on that plus a bunch of private vehicles. But basically, again Filipinos did a great job since the creation of E-jeepneys is about to be born.

Basically, E-jeepneys is ano electric-powered versions of the popular Philippine smoke-belching jeepney made their debut in Manila on Tuesday in a bid to lessen pollution in the capital’s congested streets. The said jeepney was yet launched together with the city mayor of Makati, Jejomar Binay, with a free ride on the first few weeks of operation. The E-jeepneys, or minibuses, were unveiled last year but could only operate within private, gated communities because the transport department had not approved their use on public roads.

The development of the E-jeepneys was supported by environmental group Greenpeace as part of an effort to find less polluting alternatives to the smoke-belching jeepneys that are the backbone of commuter transport in the Philippines.
