Let’s Give It a Shot with Alexa! | What’s Up with their Rankings?

Alexa. For benefit of others, is a ranking system set by alexa.com (a subsidiary of amazon.com) that basically audits and makes public the frequency of visits on various Web sites. The algorithm according to which Alexa traffic ranking is calculated, is simple. It is based on the amount of traffic recorded from users that have the Alexa toolbar installed over a period of three months. - Internet Marketing

But, is this really important? For, me as a blogger, it is very important so as to gain more opportunity when it comes to internet marketing. When we say internet marketing it is a form of electronic advertising through blogging in any form of advertisement, these includes, ad-links, ad-texts, image-ads, and also video-ads. Yet, advertisers are also conscious of rankings for their benefits when it comes to search engine results especially if you are a member of sponsoredreviews.com, a blog advertising company website.

As far as I know, Alexa ranks webpages/websites according to their toolbar. Moreover, if you visit a website, whether using Firefox or IE, that has Alexa toolbar, the toolbar itself will send a sort of data to their server together with the visitors’ IP so as for them to inform that somone visited this site. Thus, I conclude that, there’s a bit data inconsistency. As far as I know only a few people who have Alexa toolbar on their browsers. So most likely there are some site(s) that has high ranked on Google but has a lower rank on Alexa. And the worst thing is subdomains/false domains are ranked only according to the main domain, which means it has the same rank of whatever rank the domain have.

But somehow Alexa rankings may also help unconscious people to build up and gain more traffic to their site, by making ways improving their respective sites, for at least.
