A Little Success with Three Balloons

Yesterday, was the day where the ITE (Information Technology Education) students, take off their regular UIC (University of the Immaculate Conception) school uniform and dressed up with their best civilian attire to join the most special event happens every 2nd Semester, the ITE Festival.

ITE Festival was a two day activity which features the best talents and brains of the ITE student, ranging from Freshman year up to Senior year with ages 17 years old – 23 years old. There are different activities and contests happening during the festival. Major contests includes Quiz Bowl, Programming Contest, Fastest Typist, IT Related Seminar, and Creative Graphics Application.

Ok, let’s just stop there… The story goes like this…

I was one of the many students who are pointed out and recommended as the “ITE instructors says”, to join Quiz Bowl and Programming Contest. Quiz Bowl was usually the first major event during the festival. Perhaps, this is somewhat to formally open the festival.

But so much for quiz bowl, so let’s proceed to broaden the title of this post…

Meanwhile, Computer Programming Competition follows in the afternoon. I was also one of the contestants together with Joseph Brylle Cambronero as my partner and basically forming Team #8. As what other says, this is a battle between your patience, concentration, and brain. For about 5 hours you need to think, analyze, internalize, and etc.

Brylle and I wasn’t that serious with this competition because we don’t feel that we could answer at least one or more of the problems. As you may know, problems included on this competition is somehow the same with other local and international programming competition here and abroad. So, most likely, it was too impossible for us to solved those problems.

And so the competition starts and all competitors are settled down, activating their PC2 software, and start to code. In this competition, we are only allowed to use C, C++, Java programming languages. Yet, I and Brylle only knew more about C/C++ rather than Java, so decided to use GNU C++.

After a few minutes, the problem sheets were distributed and we started to solve ‘em. For your information, we have told before this event happen, that some of the problems included in competition was a bit simple. Yes! It’s true!

In fact the following are the problems we’ve solve for the past 5 hours, since the competition is only 5 hours;

To explain further, the following negative response, such as No. blah blah blah.. from the judges, has the most numbers than positive. Yes! were lucky enough. We’ve got 3 correct problems solved, and so that was a little success between me and Brylle.

We don’t even think that were on the 4th rank out of 24. And for that balloon I was talking about, basically each correct problem you’ve solved, a corresponding balloon will be tied against the head balloon team identifier.

And so for this, I was happy about it. I’ve learned a lot of things yesterday, though the remaining problems unsolved was somehow, nose bleed!
