Philippines: August 30 – A Non-working Holiday

The Palace has declared August 30 a non-working holiday.

“August 30 is a holiday. It falls on a Monday, it’s not going to be moved,” said Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda.

National Heroes Day, celebrated yearly every last Monday of August, falls on August 30.

For regular holidays, employees who report to work receive 200 percent basic wage for the first eight hours, plus an additional 30 percent of the per-hour rate for the succeeding hours counted as overtime.

For special non-working holidays, employees get 130 percent of the daily rate for the first eight hours with additional 30 percent hourly rate for overtime.

President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III drew flak this week for not declaring August 23 a holiday despite the Holiday Economics Law implemented by his predecessor, now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Arroyo observed holiday economics through Republic Act 9492, which sought to drive domestic tourism.

Under the said law, when a holiday falls on a Wednesday, it will be observed on Monday of the same week. But if the holiday falls on a weekend, it will be observed the following Monday.

Well out of curiosity it pop up into my mind on how will I able to create a company that it is only me who will manage it? And so I did some research about web hosting. Well web hosting is quite complicated. It can never be learned on school, I believe. Why? It’s because this is not part of a formal education. This is only one of the thousand applications of Networking Concepts & Server Management. Just in case you don’t know, Networking Concepts & Server Management is part of our curriculum way back on my college years. And so I incidentally arrive on a tutorial on creating a web hosting company. Well a web hosting company doesn’t need to be that big, as long as you meet the requirements, consumer needs, competition, and support and then you’re good to go. That’s what exactly iRock has. And so I didn’t hesitate to push on through with iRock and created the corporate site which is just using a WordPress script together with its corporate looking theme.

Until this point of time, iRock is still there and is growing. And we or I personally thank the people who signed up for iRock especially the ones coming from the Philippines, because they’ve valued iRock much and personally chose iRock as their web hosting provider. And there you go, iRock’s how? When? Why? statement goes.

It has been quite a long time that I haven’t personally updated this blog. Well as you may observed I do have lots of posts recently that are somehow irrelevant to my personal happenings. It was 2 days ago when I decided to rev up my blog and give a whole new layout which I’ve purchased yesterday.

The new layout is called PersonalPress. PersonalPress is a premium WordPress theme which was built by Elegant Themes. Since Elegant themes doesn’t all you to buy just 1 theme, so I decided to buy a whole year subscription just to access this theme. And its quite cheap since its only $19.95/year and you have an access to all of their themes, plus new updates and revisions. Well I hope I could write whole new articles as well for this blog to be revived and not just being dumped by pretty useless auto-blog, which I’ve used few months ago.

And yeah that’s it for now and I’ll update you guys up as soon as I can. Have great day!
